Philippine Senate Locked Down Amid ICC Arrest Warrant Crisis
The Philippine Senate remains locked down as a result of a volatile security situation arising from the detention of Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa who is under warrant of arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The security forces conducted a massive crackdown at the building, with reports of gunshots being fired, although there have been claims that no one was hurt and that the exercise had nothing to do with trying to apprehend Senator Dela Rosa. The senator, who formerly served under President Rodrigo Duterte, is accused of crimes committed against humanity as a result of extrajudicial killings during the "war on drugs."
